El Venado Polo School in Upstate New York
Blue Sky Polo Club is home to El Venado Polo School during the northern
hemisphere summer. Located only 65 miles northwest of New York City,
it is a club privately owned and operated by Chuck Elmes and boasts
4 full-size tournament fields, a practice field, and stalls &
pasture turnout for more than 150 horses. Federico Cendoya, El Venado's
owner and a 5-goal pro, conducts all polo instruction personally.
Beginners
and Youth
Although polo enthusiasts of all levels participate in El Venado Polo School. Federico provides specially prepared programs for beginners of all ages. This includes selected ponies, gear and polo exercises to adapt to the individual need and maximize the learning experience.
Small
Groups and Personalized Instruction
El Venado is committed to providing the highest quality polo instruction.
For this reason, players are organized in small groups in order to maximize personalized, one-on-one lessons.

Polo Schedule
- 9:30am - 10am (at the barn)
Horse preparation, saddling, mounting and important facts
- 10am - 12noon (on horseback)
Evaluation of individual hitting technique.
Adjust the following:

- 12noon - 12:30 (over lunch)

Facilities
- Stick and Ball Field for all members to use any time the weather permits
- 4 Full-size Tournament fields, one with boards
- 1 Practice Field
- Stabling for 58 horses in stalls and pasture turnout for more than 100 additional horses with plenty of room for expansion. More stalls will be added as the demand arises.
- 343 Acres owned by the club with an additional 120 acres of rented pasture land.
- Limited housing facilities for professionals and grooms
- Two large irrigation reels and a turbo diesel pump, allowing for excellent irrigation on all the fields.
- Three large ponds, some of which are stocked with fish for you to use, and a river as water sources for the irrigation system
- One half mile all-weather racetrack to work the horses in any kind of weather.
- A large number of pieces of equipment including four tractors for maintaining the fields.
- Small clubhouse and asado (barbecue) area
- Facilities to be added are a full-size outdoor arena and new clubhouse, plus addition fenced pastures as needed, and more stabling with groom's quarters.
Adjacent facilities
- Orange County Park adjoins the club property, and they offer golf, tennis, snow tubing in the winter, all at very inexpensive prices
- Hot Air Ballooning. Fantasy Balloon Flights offers rides originating at the nearby Randall Airport in Middletown.
- Fly fishing is available on the club property in the ponds-rainbow trout and small mouth bass (catch & release) and in the Wallkill River which runs along the property. Also available in the nearby Catskills
- Shopping Malls and many motels are only 5 minutes away. Woodbury Commons Outlet Mall with over 200 stores is 20 minutes from the club.
Directions & Nearby Accomodations
Located in the rolling farmlands of Orange County, just 65 miles NW from New York City. By car: NY Thruway to exit 16. This will take you directly onto Route 17 West to exit 120 (Montgomery) Route 211E. When you get to the bottom of the ramp after exiting Route 17, make a right onto Route 211E and go exactly five miles to Bart Bull Road where you will make another right. As a point of reference on the corner, you will see Stoney Ford Insurance Agency with an electronic time and temperature sign in front. Continue for 1.5 miles and you will see a white, two story, plantation style house on the left. This is the home of Blue Sky Polo Club.
